Philips shows off new iPod universal LCD remote/dock

LAS VEGAS - Philips is demonstrating a new remote control for dock-enabled iPod at CES this week, although the product won't be ready to ship until September 2007, according to the company.
The SJM3151 LCD remote and Dock for iPod is based on the company's new SRU9600 universal remote, but adds iPod specific features, including a dock. The remote control features a small LCD display that allows users to fully browse the contents of their iPod and control music and video.
The remote control uses RF, so it can work through walls and other obstructions; Philips estimates the range at about 50 feet. In addition, the remote offers a similar feature set to the SRU9600, meaning customers will be able to also use it as a universal remote for their television and other media components.
The SJM3151 is expected to sell for about $179 when it hits the market later this year.
