PwnageTool Team Hacks iTunes 8 for Hacked iPod touch

Apple made changes to iTunes 8 that prevent hacked iPhones and iPod touches from connecting and syncing, and the iPhone Dev Team has already responded with a new hack. This time, the hack is for iTunes 8 and circumvents the warnings that prevent the handheld from communicating with iTunes.

The group claimed that the only way to completely block the hacks that let users add unauthorized applications to their iPhone or iPod touch is to change the device hardware -- a move Apple apparently hasn’t made yet.

So far, the group has been able to develop a hack for the Mac OS X version of iTunes 8 and iPod touch, but is working to extend that to other devices. "We have one such patch already for Mac iTunes 8 for iPod touch. We’ll be working out the full suite of patches for all the combinations over the next week," the group said on its blog.

The iTunes-based hacks could start a new cat-and-mouse game between Apple and the iPhone Dev Team, so iPhone and iPod touch hackers should be ready for Apple to patch this latest hack with an iTunes 8 update.
