Q4: Apple Sells 10.2 Million iPods, 1.1 Million iPhones

Apple Inc. announced on Monday that it sold 10.2 million iPods during the September quarter, representing a 17% year-over-year gain. The company also sold 1.1 million iPhones during the same period, bringing the total number of iPhones sold to 1.389 million since they were introduced on in June of 2007.
The announcements came as part of Apple’s financial results, with the company beating consensus estimates to report revenue of US$6.22 billion and earnings of $904 million. The Mac Observer has additional details concerning Apple’s quarterly results.
During Apple’s conference call with analysts, Apple also said that it currently has some 40,000 retail outlets for the iPod throughout the world.
