RBC Analyst Meets with Apple, Projections Published

RBC Analyst Mike Abramsky met with Apple’s Greg Joswiak, Vice President of Worldwide iPod and iPhone Product Marketing recently. As a result, Mr. Abramsky published a note on Tuesday, obtained by iPodObserver.com, which outlines the perceived strategy and prospects for Apple and the iPhone.

"While Apple did not disclose specific product plans, the discussion sharpened our views on iPhone momentum and strategy," Mr. Abramsky wrote.

The RBC analyst outlined his perspectives on the iPhone introduction in Europe, 3G, European carrier negotiations, and the iPhone roadmap.

On the European launch, Mr. Abramsky expressed the view that Apple is firmly on track to launch the iPhone in Q4CY07 in UK, Germany and France. However, due to the greater use of 3G in Europe, 3G iPhones may not appear until Spring CY08 due to battery life issues.

Mr. Abramsky elected to speculate on the roadmap and felt that Apple will, in the future, differentiate the iPhone not by features but by price and memory capacity, similar to the iPod line. He also wrote about the development of iPhone software that could include, "Widgets, p2p apps, (Chat, picture messaging, social networking), Location-based services, MMS, home networking, and some kind of Leopard integration with iLife... It appears Apple, classically, has more pleasant surprises in store for iPhone and investors."

In light of all this, Mr. Abramsky reiterated an outperform and US$175 target price for Apple stock.
