Rumor: China Gets iPhone 3G in August

If the rumor mill is right, Apple’s iPhone 3G will be hitting the streets in China come August. Apparently China Unicom has signed a deal with Apple, but neither company has made a public announcement yet, according to ChinaTechNews.com.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone 3G on June 9 during his World Wide Developer Conference keynote presentation and announced that second generation iPod and smartphone would go on sale in 22 countries on July 11. He also revealed that the iPhone 3G would be available in over 70 countries by the end of 2008, but China was missing from that list.
Working out a deal with China Unicom would expose the iPhone to a substantially larger market with the potential to drive sales through the roof.
An official China launch date has not been announced, and neither Apple or China Unicom have confirmed the deal rumor.
