Rumor: iPhone, iPod touch to get iTunes Remote App

Following the release of iPhone SDK beta 8, word surfaced that Apple is planning on releasing an application that lets iPhone and iPod touch users remotely control iTunes from anywhere in their home. Apparently the application will be free and available via the App Store, according to MacRumors.
The hint that Apple is planning on releasing the remote app looks to have come from the installation notes for the pre-release version of iTunes 7.7 that is currently available only to developers.
The release notes state, in part, "Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home -- a free download from the App Store."
Assuming the remote application is released, iPhone and iPod touch users will have an always available means of controlling what iTunes is playing without requiring them to be in the same room as their computer. There is no word yet on whether or not the rumored application will also include Apple TV controls.
