Samsung Announces Portable Double-sided Display

Samsung Electronics has developed a mobile double-sided LCD display capable of producing independent images on each side. The thin-film transistor display is thinner that other double-sided displays that aren't capable of displaying independent images, and uses less power as well.

The display is 2.22-inches wide and 2.6mm thick, and supports 240x320 resolution. The combination transmissive/reflective display maintains a brightness value of 250 nits on the front, and 100 nits on the back.

The compact size, energy efficiency, lower cost, and versatility of Samsung's new display make it an intriguing option for future iPod models as well as an Apple-branded cell phone.

Samsung will be demonstrating its new double-sided displays at CES in Las Vegas starting on January 8.
