Samsung First in Total Flash Revenues, But Losing Share Because of Apple Deal

Web-Feet Research on Monday announced that 2005 revenue for the worldwide flash memory market should reach nearly US$20 billion, with Samsung leading the way on the strength of its $6.2 billion and 31.7% market share. However, the company has been losing revenue market share because of its deal with Apple that offers discounted flash memory to the iPod maker.
Overall revenue will be almost 13% higher than last year's $17.3 billion, with the NOR market dropping 17% to $8.3 billion and NAND flash leaping 53% to $11.3 billion in 2005. Samsung holds just under 50% of the NAND flash memory market.
Web-Feet said that while it typically issues its annual non-volatile memory market share report in March, a preliminary report was necessary this year because of "the dynamic growth in the flash market."
