- It's an album about a breakup, done with beats instead of mopey lyrics. But the beats are raw, and the emotions are there, even if there aren't many words on top of it. While possibly not Scott Herren

Samsung Sees Blue Sky for Blu-ray

Samsungs chief of its digital audio-video business said on Monday that his company expects their Blu-ray player business to grow 80 percent each year through 2012, according to the Associated Press on Monday.
Jun Dong-soo said that he expects global, annual sales to be 51 million players in 2012. He added that 5 million players are expected to be sold this year, about three times those sold last year. He thinks the estimate is conservative.
"Our own Blu-ray product sales should increase to 400 billion won ($402 million) this year and surpass 1 trillion won ($1 billion) by 2010," Mr. Jun Dong-soo said.
Recently, Samsung announced a fourth generation Blu-ray player, the BD-P1500 with BD Profile 1.1 support. However, no price has been set and availability is set June 2008. According to Amazon, the number one selling Blu-ray player is now the Samsung BD-P1400, available for US$399.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has estimated that Apple will sell about 3 million Apple TVs in 2008. This puts these respective devices in about the same sales class, that is neither the Blu-ray players nor the dedicated boxes like the Apple TV for Internet downloads seem to be taking a dramatic lead. Given the different interests and needs of customers worldwide, that status quo could continue for some time.
