Say Where, Voice Recognition Coming Soon to iPhone

Dial Directions has launched their voice recognition software for the iPhone, Say Where. Users can speak to the iPhone, provide a place, and then chose the mobile site to launch, for example MacQuest, Yelp, or Yellow Pages. The app is expected to be approved for the App Store soon.

"Featuring new voice-entry technology and open user interface simplicity across devices, Say Where unlocks mobile content for mainstream adoption," according to the company.

A video has been posted at YouTube that demos the software.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zNQ0YTsy7ik&hl=en&fs=1"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zNQ0YTsy7ik&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Note that the app is a verbal gateway, so to speak, to specific applications, such as Yellow Pages, MapQuest, Yelp, and so on. It is not a general purpose voice recognition application linked to personal data on the iPhone, and it still requires the user to interact with the touch screen.

Say Where will be free.
