Some New iPhone 3Gs Already Come with Replacement Adapter
Sunday, September 21st, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
After announcing a recall for power adapters that shipped with some iPhone 3Gs late on Friday, Apple has already begun to get shipments of new iPhone 3G units with the new replacement adapter to some of its Apple Store retail locations. Customers with the defective power adapters will be able to get their adapters replaced beginning October 10th, 2008.
Late on Friday, Apple announced a recall of the power adapters that came with iPhone 3Gs sold in North America, parts of South America, and Japan (see our full coverage for a detailed list of countries where the recall is in effect).
When checking the Valley Fair Apple Store in Santa Clara, CA, on Saturday afternoon, iPodObserver.com found that 16GB iPhone 3G units had arrived earlier in the day that came with the new replacement adapters.
For locations where this is not the case, customers buying new iPhone 3Gs with the old unit will still be able to fill out a form online for a replacement or go to an Apple Store starting October 10th like other other existing iPhone 3G owners.
Apple has stressed that users should cease using their old adapters, and instead use the USB connector that also came with their iPhones, or to use third-party adapters until their replacements are available.
