Sony Ericsson Introduces New Walkman Phone
Sunday, January 6th, 2008 at 3:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
LAS VEGAS -- Sony Ericsson announced Monday the Sony Ericsson W350, a new version of its Walkman-branded line of mobile phones. The new phone offers a flip case, Walkman controls for playing music, a 10mm thick form factor, support for Bluetooth, and the company noted that the Walkman controls can be accessed without opening the flip cover.
"The W350 Walkman(R) phone combines easy-to-use music and phone functions in a stylish, compact form," Ben Padley, Head of Music Marketing at Sony Ericsson, said in a statement. "It is designed to appeal to men and women on-the-go who want a stylish, compact phone that offers a complete MP3 experience at an affordable price."
Despite Mr. Padles statement about it being affordable, pricing has not yet been announced.
The device supports a 512 Memory Stick for storage, and Sony said that allows for up to 470 songs, but that assumes each song file is only a little more than 1MB per file (in our experience, typical file sizes for songs are 2-4MB, depending on the quality and length).
The phone will be released later in 2008 in two configurations: The W350i is an EDGE 900/1800/1900 phone that will be available in selected markets in Q2 2008. The W350a is an EDGE 850/1800/1900 phone for the Americas that will also be available in Q2 2008.
