Sony May Take Another Swing at the iTunes Store

Even as Sony is shutting down its Connect online music service it appears that the company is gearing up take on the iTunes Store with its own movie download service, according to Forbes. Sony spokesperson Shigenori Yoshida commented, "Music and video downloading has been available through networks, and we are looking into the area as a possible business."

The news follows only days after the company announced that it plans to phase out Connect in Europe by March 2008. Sony also announced that it is dropping its proprietary ATRAC copy protection from the Walkman portable media players.

Sony representatives did not say when to expect the new online movie service to launch.
