Sony Releases iPod Docking Station
Sunday, February 4th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
Sony is stepping outside of its own Walkman-centric world with the release of the sexily-named CPF-IP001, a docking station for Apples iPod. The product includes an iPod dock and speakers that turn the device into a standalone music player.
The CPF-IP001 includes an amplifier and a built-in subwoofer in small form factor intended to be portable. When docked in the device, you can control your iPod with an included remote control. The product supports iPods with the iPod Dock port, and includes an additional line input for a second audio source.
Sony, along with Microsoft, is competing with Apple by offering a proprietary digital media device ecosystem under the popular Walkman brand. Unlike the original cassette Walkman, however, the "NW" (for Network) line of Walkmans has not found much of a hold outside of Sonys home country of Japan. The CPF-IP001 is one of two products the company offers that is compatible with the iPod -- the second one being an adapter for Sony car stereos.
