Starbucks Announces Free iTunes Download Promotion
Sunday, September 23rd, 2007 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
The ubiquitous coffee chain Starbucks announced on Monday that it will be giving away 50 million free songs from the iTunes Store to promote the companys deal with Apple and the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. Starting on October 2, all 10,000 Starbucks locations in the U.S. will begin offering free "Song of the Day" cards featuring different artists and songs from the iTunes Store.
Starbucks will offer a different free song download every day from artists on its own Hear Music label through November 7. The first free download will be Bob Dylans Joker Man. Other artists will include Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Joss Stone, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Annie Lennox, and Band of Horses.
Apple and Starbucks are launching a service on October 2 that lets iPhone and iPod touch users access the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store in Starbucks locations without paying T-Mobile Hot Spot fees. Users will also be able to purchase the current playing or ten most recently played songs in the store wirelessly.
The service will start in New York and Seattle Starbucks locations, and will expand to other cities through 2009.
