Swisscom Announces iPhone 3G Rates with Data Caps

Swisscom will start selling Apple’s new iPhone 3G on July 11, and will offer the combination iPod and smartphone with both standard subscription and pre-paid options. Like Norway, Swiss iPhone users will face a 100MB data cap on the least expensive service plan, and top out at 1GB for the top of the line plan.

The 8GB model will sell for CHF99 (about US$97.51) with the CHF55 (about US$54.22) a month NATEL liberty grande service contract. The plan includes 1GB of data a month, and users will pay CHF0.50 (about US$0.49) per hour for calls.

The 8GB iPhone 3G will cost CHF249 (about US$245.50) with the NATEL liberty piccolo CHF25 (about US$24.65) a month plan, or CHF199 (about US$196.23) with the CHF35 (about US$34.51) a month NATEL liberty mezzo package. The data plans include 100MB a month and 250MB a month, respectively.

liberty picolo subscribers will pay CHF0.70 (about US$0.69) an hour for calls, and liberty mezzo users will pay CHF0.50 per hour. All of the plans include free Wi-Fi access at Swisscom WLAN hotspots.

While paying an additional per-hour fee for using your cell phone might seem outlandish to many U.S. iPhone users, apparently this is how Swisscom’s other cell packages work, too.

Apple’s iPhone 3G is set to launch in about 20 countries on July 11 and will include 3G wireless data support, a built-in GPS, and support for Microsoft Exchange.
