TeliaSonera Sews Up Nordic iPhone Deal
Monday, May 26th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Cell carrier TeliaSonara announced on Tuesday that it landed a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to the Nordic and Baltic markets. The agreement means that customers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia can officially get their hands on Apples combination iPod and smart phone before the end of 2008.
TeliaSonaras announcement follows in the footsteps of other cell carriers from around the world. Orange, Vodafone, Rogers, Amerian Movil, and Swisscom have all announced similar deals, and like TeliaSonara, they have all simply said that they will offer the iPhone before the end of the year.
Analysts are expecting Apple CEO Steve Jobs to introduce a new second generation iPhone during his keynote presentation at his companys World Wide Developer Conference on June 9. Rumors claim the new model will include support for 3G wireless data networking, and could also include GPS support, video conferencing, a higher resolution camera, and more.
The iPhone is currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Austria. The company plans to sell 10 million units by the end of 2008.
