Gimme Fiction by Spoon is a terrific album by an Austin band that I was lucky enough to catch on an Austin radio station during a Christmas visit.

Apple fans, Apple haters, and Apple watchers were all focused on The Moscome Center in San Francisco Tuesday as Apple CEO and spinner of distortion field extraordinaire, Steve Jobs, gave his annual keynote address to the masses at Macworld.
If nothing else Mr. Jobs gave everyone something to murmur about as he talked of iPhone and iPod Touch upgrades, Apple TV 2 and movie rentals thru the iTunes Store, wireless backups via Time Machine and Time Capsule, and the ultra-thin Macbook Air.
I personally think the keynote was a good one, though it is hard to top last years keynote when the iPhone was introduced. Still, Time Capsule and Apple TV 2 are great additions to Apples hardware lineup and movie rentals seems like an inevitability that has finally come to pass.
The Macbook Air, on the other hand, is as controversial as politics and religion. I wont go into that controversy here since Ive offered my view in my Just A Thought column, but if you havent seen the keynote and want to understand what all the hubbub is about you can download and watch the Keynote on you iPod or Apple TV. I think its an hour and a half well spent.
If youre looking for free stuff that has nothing to do with Macworld then youve come to the right place.
Remember when Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared naked in the opening scene of The Terminator? Remember when Summer Glau appeared equally clad in the opening episode of Firefly?
Well, if Ms. Glau was to become a machine-lke Terminator in the new TV Series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Story you would expect to see some skin. Fortunately the show does not disappoint in that respect, and it offers up a good bit of Scifi to boot. Its a decent extension of the Terminator franchise. In fact, I intend to catch it each week.
![]() Terminator: The Sarah Connor Story looks at the period when Sarah is trying to prepare her now teenage son, John, for the coming apocalypse. This is the period of time between the Terminator 2 and Terminator 3 movies. |
|---|
Ms. Glau does a good job of being a good Terminator. You think her slight frame would not work when compared to Schwarzeneggers bulk, but she pulls it off well. Arnold does not appear in the pilot episode, but the guy they got to play the Arnold-like Terminator is pretty good.
In any event you can check out the pilot episode for free this week at the iTunes Store. Id say it is definitely worth a watch.
OK, now we go from action to art where the artists are showcased doing live performances in the video podcast, The Artist Den.

Im a huge fan of live performances, especially those in more intimate ventures, like small clubs and theaters. The Artist Den videos are all of up and coming musicians, all well done and great to watch. I picked up several videos including The Cloud, Greg Laswell, and Ben Kweller and Ive become a fan of all of them.
Check out the Artist Den at the iTunes Store.
Finally, if youre a fan in independent movies then youre gonna love Little Minx Exquisite Corpse.
The Exquisite Corpse is apparently a game played by movie directors where the last line of a script is used as the first line of another script telling a completely different story. The result is a series of seemingly unrelated video vignettes that is a lot of fun to watch.
![]() ...eyes upon her... The Exquisite Corpse |
|---|
The first movie "with the eyes of every man upon her" is one of the best little bits of film making Ive seen In a while.
There are only 5 episodes so far but theres bound to be more. Check it out.
Thats a wrap for this week.
Just a thought before you go: Now that Apple TV can do movie rentals it doesnt mean you HAVE to rent movies. As Ive shown weekly theres a lot of content out there that is extremely good and absolutely free, and you should be able to download it on your Apple TV, which make owning an Apple TV all the better.
So browse the iTunes Store of around the Web or stop here each week for a round up of free content.
