The Top Ten Predictions for HDTV in 2008
Sunday, September 30th, 2007 at 4:00 PM - by John Martellaro
TV industry observer Phillip Swann posted his top ten predictions for HDTV in 2008 at TVPredictions on Monday.
Among the significant predictions were:
HDTV prices will stabilize as 720p and 1080i HDTVs start to disappear and 1080p HDTVs assume a dominant position.
The Digital TV Converter box which is intended to ease the transition after the analog cutoff date in February 2009 will have delivery problems as well as become a political football.
DirecTV will put enormous pressure on the competition with its 100 HD channel lineup
Some broadcasters will shortcut technologies, stretch SD pictures, and consumers will have a hard time determining that theyre getting a true HD signal. In spite of that, some savvy networks will target HDTV customers with quality HD content with a big payoff.
Finally, among the notable predictions is that new technologies and consumer apathy will force an end to the HD DVD/Blu-ray war in 2008.
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has estimated that 36 percent of U.S. households will have at least one HDTV by the end of 2007.
