Time’s Invention of the Year: iPhone
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
What do you get when you mix equal parts of multi-touch technology, innovative design, the ability to tell cell carriers how a mobile phone should be made, and stick it all in your pocket? The iPhone: Time Magazines invention of the year.
Time states "Yes, theres been a lot of hype written about the iPhone, and a lot of guff too. So much so that it seems weird to add more, after Danny Fanboy and Bobby McBlogger have had their day. But when that day is over, Apples iPhone is still the best thing invented this year."
According to the article, Apple managed to design a handheld device that blends form and functionality in a way that is approachable and user friendly. In a world where other companies design phones and other electronic devices based on packing features into nondescript cases, the iPhone stands out.
Even gadget lovers that dont use the iPhone will ultimately see benefits from the combination iPod and smart phone. Now that Apple has set a new bar for handheld devices, and also shown that product developers can take some design control back from cell carriers, other companies like Nokia, Motorola, and Samsung are likely to continue developing new and innovative products as well.
