TubeSock gets YouTube Videos Onto iPod [UPDATED]
Wednesday, August 30th, 2006 at 3:00 PM - by Brad Cook
StinkBot has released TubeSock, a utility that converts YouTube videos into iPod-, Mac-, or PlayStation Portable-ready versions. It takes the popular site's FLV format and turns it into H.264, MP4, or MP3, automatically determining the appropriate bitrate and naming convention for the target device.
TubeSock can import the videos into iTunes and can also save just the audio portion so it can be listened to on a non-video iPod. In addition, TubeSock can install bookmark scripts in Safari and Firefox, enabling users to bookmark favorite videos and have them appear in the utility.
Pricing is US$15. Mac OS X v10.3.9 and iTunes 6.0 are required.
3:44 PM, 9/1/06: Updated article with correct pricing. Those responsible for the incorrect pricing have been sacked. We apologize for any inconvenience.
