UBS Downgrades AT&T Stock from "Buy" to "Hold"

UBS analyst John Hodulik downgraded both AT&T and Verizon from "Buy" to "Hold" on Monday citing the weaker economy.
Mr. Hodulik said that the weaker economy will pressure the fundamentals of those companies more than expected. He also cited a dilution due to the revised iPhone business model. [Apple has lowered the price and, according to reports, the two companies have dropped the revenue sharing model.]
The analyst cut his target price from US$42 to $39, lowered his 2008 EPS estimate slightly, and changed the rating from "Buy" to "Hold."
However, the new iPhone 3G was cited as something that would make the wireless market more competitive. Whether that competitive advantage would lead to better market share for AT&T was left as an open issue.
