Universal Announces Continued Support for HD DVD
Thursday, January 10th, 2008 at 3:00 PM - by John Martellaro
Ken Graffeo, executive vice president of HD strategic marketing for Universal Studios Home Entertainment, said on Friday that Universal will continue to support the HD DVD format.
Yesterday, Variety published a story that Universals commitment to support HD DVD exclusively has expired. The suggestion was that Universal might switch to Blu-ray support.
In a statement reported by DVDTown, Mr. Graffeo said that a response might have come sooner, but many HD DVD executives were on flights home. He continued, "Contrary to unsubstantiated rumors from unnamed sources, Universals current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format."
Notably, what he did not say in the statement was that Universal would not also offer movies in Blu-ray format. Rather, simply that they would continue to support HD DVD for now.
