    • Goldfrapp
    • On their latest CD, Supernature, Goldfrapp has put together a successful mix of 1980-era New Romanticism, German cabaret, and T. Rex glam that leaves you riveted even through the album's lulls. It's a great amalgam that sounds current without sounding at all dated.

Universal Studios Makes Statement about HD DVD

Universal Studios has closed the books on HD DVD, according to Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Universal Pictures. They will now focus on Blu-ray titles.

In a statement posted by C|Net, Mr, Kornbalu said, "The emergence of a single, high-definition format is cause for consumers, as well as the entire entertainment industry, to celebrate. While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray."

The announcement came on the same day that Toshiba said it would pull the plug on HD DVD. Universal was in the HD DVD camp from day one, and now it will have some catching up to do in terms of converting its manufacturing and then filling the pipeline. The statement about catalog titles would seem to suggest that previous titles released on HD DVD would be re-issued in Blu-ray.
