    • This timeless masterpiece is little known, but it has inspired almost as many bands as The Modern Lovers' own inspiration -- and only slightly better known -- The Velvet Underground & Nico.

    • Ten years after the original release, comes the traditional celebratory acoustic re-recording. The album has held up remarkably well. While it is not as meaningful to me as it was when I was sixteen,

Viewers Find Football in HD Unwatchable on NBC

Football in HD has been described as the "killer app." However, many viewers found a recent NBC football game virtually unwatchable in HD, according to Joseph Whip blogging at TV Predictions.

Mr. Whip pointed out that not all broadcasters have the problem: "For the most part, the major networks are doing a great job in their HD productions... CBS is my favorite as I find their picture and audio quality to be top notch, with a very colorful and sharp picture with outstanding 5.1 audio. After CBS, I would rank Fox and ESPN next," he wrote.

However, a recent NBC football game between Notre Dame and Georgia Tech was described "a pixelated mess and unwatchable." Technical reasons related to the use of the primary and subchannel utilized by NBC and bandwidth allocation were proposed. Contributors to the Blog agreed that NBC’s football picture is inferior.

The problem has been noticed for the last couple of years. Mr. Whip also noted that the sound quality for games, at least in his region (Philadelphia), is also poor.

There has been a trend in the industry to raise consumer prices for HD video, claiming higher quality content. However, the advanced technology of HD and the transition from analog have incurred many costs for broadcasters. How they juggle those costs and technologies and deliver their HD content is getting healthy discussion now that so many consumers have moved to the new technology.
