Vodafone Objects to T-Mobile’s iPhone Contract in Germany
Monday, November 19th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by John Martellaro
Vodafone has asked a German court to force Deutsche Telekom to make changes to its marketing of the iPhone in Germany, according to the Wall Street Journal [Subscription Required] on Tuesday.
Vodafone Germany sought an injunction because local laws allowed them to question the linkage of the iPhone with a two year contract and the limitation to the T-Mobile network.
The ruling stands until a hearing in Hamburgs court in two-weeks. The move by Vodafone is a challenge to Apples marketing plan for the iPhone. According to the WSJ, Apples efforts for this kind of exlusive partnership were foiled in France where, according to French consumer law, Apple must let other companies besides Orange sell the iPhone.
T-Mobile has stated that they reserve the right to claim damages from Vodafone.
