Wal-Mart Launches Blu-ray Experience
Monday, June 2nd, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by John Martellaro
Wal-Mart is redesigning its consumer electronics department, increasing the stock of Blu-ray movie titles by 58 percent, and offering a US$100 gift card with the purchase of any Blu-ray player, according to TVPredictions on Tuesday.
Unlike the Best Buy offer announced last week, which has $100 worth of coupons for Blu-ray movies, the Wal-Mart gift cards can be used for any item in the store.
Wal-Mart is also expanding its Blu-ray lineup beyond Sony PS3s to include players from Magnavox (likely Funai), Panasonic and Samsung.
"We are excited to be a destination for families looking to create a high quality, affordable home entertainment experience with our new, wider selection of high-def TVs, Blu-ray players and movies," said Gary Severson, senior VP of Wal-Marts Home Entertainment Division.
