Washington Post Launches iPhone City Guide for D.C.

On Wednesday, the washingtonpost.com launched its first iPhone and iPod touch native app, an on-the-go guide of over 2,000 Washington, D.C. restaurants, bars and clubs.
The Washington Post said that City Guide app uses the iPhone’s GPS to identify and map all nearby locations within a few blocks of the user’s location. The application lets users search by name, neighborhood and cuisine. The app then shows the address, phone number, hours, price range and directions.
"We are continuing to explore opportunities to translate features on washingtonpost.com for mobile audiences and the City Guide application was a natural fit," said Jim Brady, Executive Editor of washingtonpost.com. "With this application, we are giving mobile users all of the information they need to conveniently navigate the entertainment scene in and around D.C."

The app is available at the iTunes App Store. It is free.
The Washington Post confirmed with TMO that the iPhone 2G location services can also be used and have been tested in that mode. Similar apps are likely coming from other sources for other major cities around the world.
