Watch Video on Your iPod With the myvu Visor
Wednesday, December 27th, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by John Martellaro
The myvu personal media viewer from MicroOptical Corp. is a device that consists of a black, ultra-sleek visor/viewer, noise reduction ear buds, and an ultra thin case and battery combination. It works with a 5G iPod or later. The myvu was reviewed at the Wall Street Journal Wednesday [Subscription Required.]
"We tested the iPod-specific version and wore the Myvu to watch various types of videos, including music videos, television shows and movies. Overall, it's a pretty cool device, with a good-looking visual illusion that MicroOptical says is comparable to watching a 27-inch screen from six feet away," according to the reviewer who also stated that the myvu "looks like a prop from Star Trek."
One of the accessories is a thin lithium battery built into the protective case that extends the video viewing time from the normal 3.5 hours to 8.5 hours. However, the review also pointed out that watching a long movie could make the user uncomfortable. MicroOptical provides some additional accessories to make extended viewing more comfortable.
Geordi La Forge never looked this good. The myvu personal media viewer, iPod edition, is priced at US$299.95.
