Xbox 360 Lets Gamers Use iPods For Video Game Music [UPDATED]
Thursday, November 3rd, 2005 at 2:00 PM - by Brad Cook
When gamers load Project Gotham Racing 3 on Microsoft's new Xbox 360 video game console, they'll be able to play the music on their iPods as the soundtrack. A news item on GameShout, which used a CNET piece as its source, reports that the Xbox 360 can auto-detect any MP3 player and allow players to browse its contents, as well as create custom playlists.
Microsoft was able to include the functionality because the iPod can be used as a USB mass storage device, although GameShout believes "Apple will fight back once the new console launches." The article cites rumors that Microsoft tried to partner with Apple on iPod use with the Xbox 360 but was rejected. While Apple has tried to assert control over the iPod's dock connector, the new Xbox simply uses one of its three USB 2.0 ports.
