Yahoo! to Netcast Episodes of Two CBS TV Shows
Monday, December 26th, 2005 at 2:00 PM - by Brad Cook
Yahoo! and CBS on Tuesday said that two episodes of the latter's sitcoms How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men will be available commercial-free through the former for one week. Writing for The Motley Fool, Alyce Lomax commented that "there's little that's incredibly exciting about this agreement," in light of its limitations, but "it's been interesting to watch digital distribution of video content gain steam over recent months."
Apple currently offers episodes from select ABC, Disney and NBC TV shows at the iTunes Music Store for US$1.99 each, although free content, such as the Saturday Night Live parody video "Lazy Sunday," is also available. Meanwhile, TiVo's TiVoToGo service will gain iPod video compatibility early next year, although the software required to make that happen still isn't ready for Mac OS X.
As Ms. Lomax pointed out, the CBS-Yahoo! deal "seems a guarantee that more interesting developments in the digital distribution arena are sure to come, and likely sooner than later.
