Another pillar of my musical foundations, The Stooges' first album is one those records whose influence far outweighed its popularity. Like The Velvet Underground & Nico, hordes of people wh

This timeless masterpiece is little known, but it has inspired almost as many bands as The Modern Lovers' own inspiration -- and only slightly better known -- The Velvet Underground & Nico.

Apple Starts Selling Unsubsidized iPhones

Following the lead of AT&T's retail chain, which began the practice last week, Apple's own stores are also now selling unsubsidized iPhones at the non-contract price of US$599 for an 8GB model and $699 for the 16GB version. According to Fortune, AT&T has placed a limit of one unsubsidized phone per existing customer, but Apple has neither restriction in place.
The phones can be activated at home with iTunes, although, as Fortune noted, they need to be jailbroken to be used on any cellular network other than AT&T's. Fortune joined in current speculation that Apple and AT&T want to clear inventories ahead of an iPhone refresh expected during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, which will be held June 8-12 in San Francisco.
[12:15 PM EDT, 3/27/09: Edited to change "unlocked" to "unsubsidized," to more accurately reflect what Apple and AT&T are selling.]
