Apple TV 2.4, Remote 1.3 Add Gesture-based Controls

Apple released Apple TV 2.4 and Remote 1.3 on Wednesday. The updates let users control their Apple TV with swipe and tap finger gestures instead of on-screen buttons over a local Wi-Fi network from their iPhone or iPod touch.

Apple TV is Apple's home entertainment appliance for music, video, photo and podcast playback on your TV. Remote is Apple's software-based remote control application for the the iPhone and iPod touch that lets users control their Apple TV or iTunes library without requiring a keyboard, mouse, or Apple Remote.

The Apple TV 2.4 update is free and automatically installs as part of the device's weekly update check. Users can install the update immediately by navigating toSettings > General > Update Softwareon their Apple TV.

Remote is free and available for download at Apple's iTunes-based App Store.

They have reordered TV episodes and podcasts. New used to be at the top so you don’t have to scroll down for the latest. Now, new is at the bottom. Imagine you have a 2 year archive of a weekday podcast with 3 1-hour episodes per day (yes, I am a Jim Rome addict). Minor fail on Apple’s part…

They’ve also screwed up song ordering for podcast sourced dynamic playists on iPod Touch. I get the sense that the guy or gal who kept it all together with playlist ordering moved on to something else recently.
