Apple Working to Patch iPhone SMS Security Flaw

Apple's iPhone apparently has an SMS security vulnerability that the company is currently working to patch. The flaw could potentially allow an attacker to craft a text message that gives them root access and the ability to run their own code on Apple's combination iPod and smartphone.
Security research expert Charlie Miller discussed the flaw at the SyScan Conference in Singapore on Thursday, according to Macworld UK. He didn't offer any details on how the the exploit works at Apple's request.
Mr. Miller said that an attacker could use the flaw to activate the iPhone's microphone and listen in on conversations, track users via the built-in GPS, or add the iPhone to a denial of service attack.
"The iPhone is more secure than OS X, but SMS could be a critical vulnerability," Mr. Miller said.
So far, it appears that no one is actively using the flaw to attack iPhones. Apple has not said when it expects to release the security patch.
