Apple’s Newest iPhone Market: Vermont

Apple's popular iPhone 3G finally went on sale in Vermont on Thursday now that AT&T is offering cell coverage in the state. The cell carrier's recent acquisition of Unicel gave it a foot into the state and a way to begin offering mobile phone contracts to local residents.

Steve Krom, AT&T's top executive in New England told WCAX News "Vermont up until now had two carriers, Verizon and Unicel. Verizon bought the parent of Unicel, and through the process of the acquisition had to divest the property. So AT&T swapped the Vermont property and acquired that. Verizon got other properties AT&T had in other parts of the country."

Just like earlier iPhone launches in other parts of the United States, Vermont residents lined up early for a chance to get their hands on the combination iPod and smartphone. Lines began forming at some locations as early as 7AM local time.

The introduction of the iPhone 3G in Vermont also means that Verizon now has competition for its own smartphone products, which should be good news for consumers.

I am happy for Small Dog Electronics, one of the truly nice Apple Resellers, who are located in Vermont and until now have been on the outside looking in on the iPhones (though Apple still won’t let them sell the actual phones, I think, which is hardly fair considering all they do to promote the brand)

Ditto the comments on Small Dog. Hey Apple, how about franchising the Genius Bar for resellers like them?
