AT&T Puts the Kibosh on $55 Tethering Rumors

AT&T has taken a direct step to put the kibosh on rumors that tethering plans for the iPhone will cost $55 per month. The company made the statement through its iPhone 3G S FaceBook page, but didn't reveal what the plan will cost, or when the feature will be launched.

"There are a lot of reports out there," the company wrote on its FaceBook page, "but wanted you guys to know that rumors of $55 tethering plan on top of an unlimited data plan are false. We'll have more news to share when the iPhone tethering option is closer to launch."

Rumors that tethering will cost $55 began circulating this week on the Internet, and the reaction from AT&T is the first bit of color the company has offered since it was first revealed that other markets in the world would offer the service before AT&T.

Thanks to LoopInsight for the heads up on the FaceBook note.

OK, so it’s not $55/month. Maybe it’s $54.95.

I bet it’ll be $89.99 a month on top of everything else.

Yep, and only available to the top tier plans, and only if you sign a new two year contract, and buy a new phone.
