Creators Say iPhone South Park App Denied

Cartman
Cartman Gets Rejected

Apple has denied a South Park app submitted by the creators of the cartoon. According to a blog post at South Park's Web site, Apple denied the app because its content was "potentially offensive."

"We first announced our iPhone App back in October, after we submitted the Application to Apple for approval," the company said on its Web site. "After a couple of attempts to get the application approved, we are sad to say that our app has been rejected."

"According to Apple, the content was 'potentially offensive," the blog entry continued. "But Apple did admit that the standards would evolve, citing that when iTunes first launched it didn't sell any music with explicit lyrics. At this point, we are sad to say, the app is dead in the water. Sorry, South Park fans."

This may be in start contrast to Apple's policies for video content at iTunes, where the entire South Park TV series is available for sale, along with its feature film, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.

This seems like a good opportunity to point out that iFart Mobile and a host of similar apps was not deemed offensive by Apple.

Forget calling it potentially offensive, South Park is inherently offensive. smile

I wonder how much this has to do with South Park episodes being for sale on the iTunes Store.

So that’s no offensive but things like Wobble (wobbleapp.com/video) are not? Seems completely ridiculous to me.

Probably because there is no chalk screeching on a blackboard audio track in Wobble as there is in South Park.

This is certainly the wrong category and subcategory, but I have been eagerly awaiting the availability of the “South Park” app for my iPod Touch. I read today that Apple has rejected this app because it is potentially offensive:

So, I’m doing a one month purchasing moratorium of Apple iTunes Store. You can view my account and see that I am a regular customer. I might begin purchasing again in April. I haven’t decided. But the censorship of main stream humor in the App Store is quite objectionable. You can change my mind by changing yours, and accepting the “South Park” app.

I’d urge other South Park fans who spend lots of their money in the iTunes Store and App Store to do the same.

Potentially offensive?  WTF?  Seriously?  Apple continues to suprise me.  I find it offensive that Apple decides to be the moral police.  Fans of South Park could care less if it’s offensive.
