Eye-Fi Announces iPhone App For Photo Syncing, Sharing

Eye-FiSAN FRANCISCO - Eye-Fi announced Monday that the company was developing an iPhone application that will automatically upload pictures from your iPhone to both your computer and the Web-based sharing site of your choice. The application will be available from the App Store for free to Eye-Fi card owners.

Eye-Fi's main product line is its self-titled line of memory cards that include built-in WiFi transmitters that can automatically upload pics to your computer from your camera. The new app will upload your images to any of the 25 Web-based photo sharing services available, and keep them synced on your computer the same way Eye-Fi memory cards do.

Users will be able to select which images from their iPhones they wish to upload, and specify their destination. This can be done from anywhere, and does not require docking the iPhone.

Today's announcement does not include a release date, but the company is offering a signup for being alerted as to its release. Eye-Fi will also be at Macworld this week, and is demonstrating the new app in its booth (#3315 in the North Hall). You can also see a demo video on the company's Web site.
