HP MediaSmart Server Adds Streaming iPhone Support

HP announced a new software update for its MediaSmart Servers on Monday. The update will let iPhone and iPod touch users view streaming video content from HP's EX485 and EX487 media devices.
The update will let the devices automatically transcode unprotected content as H.264 (MPEG-4) for remote playback on Apple's handhelds as well as the Sony PSP.
iPhone and iPod touch owners will need the HP iPhone app to access video, photos and music over the Internet. The application will be available for free via Apple's App Store, and will require a Wi-Fi or 3G data connection to download content from the MediaSmart Server.
HP says the MediaServer update will be available by the end of April as a free download.
