iPhone Apps Already in the Wild

Apple’s iPhone won’t hit store shelves until June 29, but Web 2.0 applications for the combination iPod and smartphone are already available online. Despite developer’s lackluster response to Apple’s limited access to to iPhone coding, that isn’t stopping people from cranking out apps for the handheld device, according to Ars Technica.

OneTrip actually appeared in May before Apple announced that developers would be limited to Web 2.0 applications. A version of Digg for the iPhone is also available, as is iTweetr - a Twitter client just for the iPhone.

The collection of third-party applications for the iPhone is limited today, but that will likely change once June 29 rolls around and users get the device in their hands. Should the iPhone prove popular enough, software tracking Web sites like MacUpdate and VersionTracker may have to add new categories just for the device.
