iPhone Dev Program Scores Over 200K Coders
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple is already considering its iPhone application developer program a success with over 200,000 programmers signed up so far. The iPhone and iPod maker made the announcement during its second quarter earnings report on Wednesday.
Along with the strong turnout on the developer front, Apple was also pleased with the number of enterprise-level businesses involved in the iPhone 2.0 beta program. Over one third of the Fortune 500 institutions are involved in the beta program, and according to CFO Peter Oppenheimer, "More are being added every week."
He also confirmed that the iPhone 2.0 software will be available in late June.
The Cupertino company shipped 1.703 million iPhones during the quarter, coming in just above Wall Streets 1.5 million expectations.
Apple reported US$7.51 billion in revenue for the quarter, up 43 percent year-over-year with a net profit of $1.05 billion. It sold 10.644 million iPods during the quarter for a relatively flat one percent quarterly increase, or eight percent year-over-year.
