iPhone Developer Program Goes International
Sunday, May 4th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apples iPhone Developer Program has moved beyond the confines of the United States and is now open to software developers in other countries, too. The change means that iPhone and iPod touch application coders from around the world will now have the opportunity to distribute their programs through Apples App Store when it launches at the end of June.
The international expansion came quietly and was presented only with a change in wording on the Details page on Apples iPhone Developer Program Web site. Instead of stating that the program is open to developers in the U.S., the page now states "The iPhone Developer Program will initially be available to a limitedÊnumber of developers during the beta period."
At least one iPhone coder in the U.K. has already successfully applied for the program, according to TUAW. Apparently the developer paid a £59 fee and was accepted into the program.
The expansion of the iPhone developer program is good news for coders, and ultimately for end users since now theres a chance there will be even more iPhone and iPod touch applications available when Apple officially opens the App Store.
