iPhone Helps Deutsche Telekom Acquire Wireless Customers

Deutsche Telekoms customers have been abandoning their land lines and going wireless. Apples iPhone has played a role in helping Deutsche Telekoms wireless service offset those defections, according to the Associated Press on Tuesday.
The company said it lost more than a half million land line subscribers in the last three months of 2007. However, the decline was offset by the growth in its mobile phone unit as well as demand for broadband Internet.
The iPhone sales, while not dominating the wireless gains, were nevertheless given credit for a major role in making up the shortfall. About 70,000 iPhone were sold since its debut in late November.
Shares of Deutsche Telekom were up almost 1.8 percent on Tuesday to US$20.36 in the Frankfurt stock market.
