iPhone May Hit Russia Before 2009
Sunday, June 15th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple didnt include Russia on the iPhone 3G rollout list during its World Wide Developer Conference, but the country could still see a launch before the end of 2008. Apple CEO Steve Jobs claimed that Russia wasnt included because a contract hadnt yet been reached, according to the Moscow Times.
In an interview with CNBC, Mr. Jobs commented "We just didnt have a chance to close [a deal] with Russia. And I think youll see [agreements] happen later this year."
Apple has already struck deals to bring its combination iPod and smartphone to over 70 markets before the end of 2008, and will launch the device in more than 20 markets on July 11.
Mr. Jobs announced iPhone 3G, the successor to the original iPhone, on June 9 during his keynote presentation at WWDC in San Francisco. The phone sports 3G wireless data support, a built-in GPS, and will include access to the companys App Store so users can install third-party applications on their handheld device.
