iPhone May Ship June 11
Thursday, March 29th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple is saying only that its iPhone will ship in June. Cingular, however, is being more open and is telling customers the combination iPod/smart phone will be available on June 11, according to CNET News.
Steve Jobs originally announced the iPhone during Macworld Expo 2007 in January to avoid having information about the device leak out during the FCC approval process. At that time, Mr. Jobs revealed the June launch window.
If the June 11 launch date is accurate, that's no small coincidence, since it is also the first day of Apple's World Wide Developer Conference. Although Apple typically doesn't broadcast the Developer Conference keynote presentation live, media attention will already be focused on the event to see if Steve Jobs announces any new products, making it a prime opportunity to launch the iPhone and also Mac OS X 10.5 - the next version of the Mac operating system.
Sticking with company policy, Apple isn't discussing the official iPhone release date.
