At the CTIA Wireless 2007 show in Orlando, when AT&T Chief Operating Officer Randall Stephenson pulled out his iPhone during his speech, the audience "snapped to attention," according to Yahoo Finance.
After the speech, backstage, Kevin Martin, the chairman of the Federal Communications was able to borrow the iPhone for a few minutes and handle it. "He spent more time with it than I did, "Mr. Stephenson said in an interview afterward. For a minute, "It seemed like he wouldnt give it back," Stephenson joked.
Apparently, Mr. Stephenson was only allowed to flash the phone for impact. Later, "A guy in blue jeans" took it away, Stephenson said.
