iPhone Software 2.0 Available July 11

San Francisco - Apple originally promised iPhone and iPod touch software 2.0 would be available at the end of June, but it looks like the world will have to wait until July 11 to get their hands on the update. Steve Jobs revealed that the update would be available the same day that the second generation iPhone 3G hits store shelves during his keynote presentation at the company’s World Wide Developer Conference on Monday.
The software update for the iPhone and iPod touch will add document viewing support for iWork files and Microsoft Office files, the ability to bulk move and delete email messages, the ability to search Address Book contacts, and support for a wide range of languages.
Parents will be able to use the new Parental Controls feature to limit how their children use an iPhone, including locking out specific applications.
The update will also add support for the just announced MobileMe service.
MobileMe is a set of Web-based applications for managing personal information, photos and documents online. It also lets subscribers push email, contacts and calendar changes from their computer to their handheld through the Internet.
iPhone and iPod touch software 2.0 will be a free upgrade for iPhone owners, or US$9.99 for iPod touch owners.
