iPod Flash Mob Dances Through Victoria Station
Thursday, April 5th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Over 4,000 club goers broke out their iPods and a few other MP3 players in London's Victoria Station on Thursday night for a flash mob dance-fest that lasted for two hours. A flash mob is a gathering of people that perform group acts together in public - typically some kind of odd act or performance that is hastily arranged.
In this instance, the flash mob consisted of a large group of people that dance together while listening to their own music through a portable music player. What passers by saw was a large group of people dancing in silence.
The Victoria Station flash mob dance started at 6:53 p.m. local time with a 10 second countdown, according to the Evening Standard. It turned out to be the largest gathering of its kind to date the U.K. When police arrived two hours later, the group dispersed.
Although the mob attendees saw the event as harmless fun, not everyone shared their point of view. "I was trying to get my train home but the whole concourse was filled with students dancing and I couldn't get through," one commuter commented. "The last thing I wanted after a hard day at work was to miss my train because of the idiots."
The event was staged by Mobile Clubbing.
