iPod Set to Change Entertainment Distribution
Sunday, October 16th, 2005 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple's new video capable iPod is poised to radically alter how TV content is delivered, according to an IT-Enquirer article. Apple, along with some help from Disney, is on the verge of fundamentally changing how video content is distributed.
Television viewers who miss a show are likely to purchase programming to view on their iPods, especially since TV episodes are available the day after they air, making it easy to catch up on missed shows while on the go.
Easy to use tools, like iTunes 6, let the average user find and download programming. And Apple's end-to-end experience for video purchase, downloading, and portable viewing is the best in the industry.
The iPod, however, is only part of the equation. The new iMac is in position to take over the living room. Front Row, along with Apple's new remote control, turn the iMac into a home entertainment center.
The next step is video Internet, where viewers can choose to watch what they want, when they want. Analysts feel that an Apple / Brightcove team up would take the notion beyond video podcasting, potentially bringing main stream programming right to your desktop.
