iPod, iMac Designer Jonathan Ive Talks to England’s Telegraph
Sunday, November 20th, 2005 at 2:00 PM - by Brad Cook
British Telegraph reporter David Derbyshire this past weekend filed a profile of Apple vice-president Jonathan Ive, who was responsible not only for the design of the iPod but also the original iMac and its two successors.
In addition to detailing Mr. Ive's pre-Apple career and the awards he has won since joining the company in 1998, Mr. Derbyshire delves into his subject's design philosophies. Talking about the G5 iMac, for example, Mr. Ive notes that its all-in-one design "solves lots of problems in such a calm and serene way."
He finds it "sad and frustrating" that so many products are poorly designed and explains that his team has simple goals in mind. "We genuinely try to make the very best product that we can," he told Mr. Derbyshire. "We have a belief that we can solve our problems and make products better and better. It's a simple goal to articulate, but a difficult one to achieve."
